Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself “
As an elementary school principal, I believe that we should teach our children to be life- long learners; therefore, learning should take place through real life experiences that help children apply their acquired knowledge in their future.
To achieve that, learning activities should provoke critical thinking , problem solving skills and provide opportunities for social interaction with their colleagues, which will help them enhance their social skills.
As a school, we believe that each child has a role in his/ her learning; therefore, our teachers ensure that every child is valued and provided with learning opportunities and paths that suit his/ her needs and interests.
We offer a comprehensive and robust academic program that is aligned with common core standards. Our constructivist, student-centered curriculum encourages students to find their passions and paths in education and follow them. Students are led to work with and use the information they are given, both individually and with other members of the class.
DIS integrated curriculum connects different areas of study by cutting across subject-matter lines and emphasizing unifying concepts. Integration focuses on making connections for students, allowing them to engage in relevant, meaningful activities that are connected to real life. This structure supports the students’ overall development, always emphasizing the objective of students achieving “life skills.”
Our Elementary school program emphasizes inquiry-based learning. Students demonstrate their learning through weekly quizzes, written assignments, oral presentations, projects, demonstrations, and discussions. Students in grades 3-5 participate in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing to observe their skills development and learning continuum so as to ensure that they are at grade level standards.
